Solar Mass Ejections
3 ESO + 1 Bachillerato - 48 students

On the 10th of May a bus with 48 students of the school IES J.L.López Aranguren came to ESAC. This group of students was formed by students in their third year of ESO and with students in their first year of Bachillerato

The students had started the Space-Science Experience offered by the CESAR Team in their classroom with the support of their teachers. For this reason the students arrived at ESAC with a lot of questions such as "how is the astronauts training?" , "Is the European Space Agency more interested in studying the Moon or Mars?".

Once the CESAR Team answered to all their questions the students started the activities planned for them. For this the group was divided into two groups, once of them went to know some of the most relevant ESA space science missions making a tour through their models. The other group started a hands-on session in a research topic (a Scientific Case) that the students had already selected as their favourite in advance.

The scientific case chosen was "The Coronal Mass Ejections". Before starting to act as scientist the students watched a short video where the CESAR Team explained how these ejections occur. They read some material, as scientists do when they read publication on a research topic, and started to analyze some images collected by SOHO in order to make their calculations. The students were happily surprised to be able to determine with this material "the speed of the Sun mass ejections", "how long would it take to this material to arrive to the Earth if it had been ejected now?"
