Topographic Planetary Study with Augmented Reality - IES Cañada Real
08/February/201850 students - 1º ESO
During Thursday, students from IES Cañada Real came to ESAC to work on the scientific case about topograhic studies using resoursces like augmented reality.
At the beggining of the visit, the group was welcomed by our monitors and the coordinator of CESAR project, after that we splited in two groups. One of them went for a small tour around ESAC installations learning more about the missions acomplished by the European Space Agency, they also had the opportunity to see a small scale model of the comet Churyumov Gerasimenko 67P and a section of the Ariane 5 rocket.
In the meantime, the other group worked on the scientific case in which they learnt about the importance of topograhic studies about the Earth and other worlds. To acomplish this, they used among other resources a sandbox with augmented reality. Using 3D sensors and cameras, the students are able to model different surface features over a colored map of heights is projected in real time.
The visit was a success and we hope that new scientific vocations had arise.
