Variety of galaxies

In this activity, students will classify galaxies according to their shape, based on real ones taken by satellite in the optical.

RECOMMENDED AGES: 12–15 years

KEY COMPETENCES (LOMLOE):

  • Competence in science, technology and engineering.
  • Personal and social competence and learning to learn.
  • Digital competence.

DIDACTIC OBJECTIVES:

  • Understanding morphological differences between galaxy types
  • Analyze astronomical images and use citizen science tools
  • Replicate the research carried out at the beginning of the twentieth century by Edwin Hubble and see the limitations of this (subjective).
  • Assess the importance of classifying data in astronomical research.

MATERIALS:

INCLUSION:

  • Suitable for students with partial visual impairment or dyslexia (because the interface is high contrast and the possibility of putting black on white and different color range and guided support).
  • Suitable for students with mobile disabilities and ASD (providing clear guides on paper)
