In this activity we will learn about the concept of a habitable zone for a star in the Solar System, mainly defined by the star Sun as well as for solar systems regulated by other types of stars.

RECOMMENDED AGES: 12–18 years

KEY COMPETENCES (LOMLOE):

• Competence in science, technology and engineering.
• Personal and social competence and learning to learn.
• Digital competence.
• Citizen awareness.

DIDACTIC OBJECTIVES:

• Graphically experience the impact it has on the evolution of a star

o The initial mass of the star
o The distance from the planet to the star
o the surface temperature of the star
o The evolution of the habitable zone over time

• Understanding the meaning of habitable zone
• Use of applications to simulate the possibility of finding water in liquid form on planets around stars.

MATERIALS:
• Computer with Internet access
• Simulator 1 of habitable zones around stars
• Simulator 2 of habitable zones around stars

INCLUSION:

• Suitable for students with hearing impairment (captioned resources).
• Suitable for students with partial visual impairment (high-contrast interface and guided support).
