The life of stars

In this activity, students will work as astronomers predicting the evolution of the Sun and its characteristics.

RECOMMENDED AGES: 12–18 years

KEY COMPETENCES (LOMLOE):
• Competence in science, technology and engineering.
• Personal and social competence and learning to learn.
• Digital competence.

DIDACTIC OBJECTIVES:

• Understand the relationship between the initial mass of a star and its evolution in terms of:

o time
o Phase of evolution of the star
o luminosity
o temperature
o mass
o Classification: Spectral Type

• Understand the use of Hertzsprung-Russell (HR) diagrams.
• Use of applications to simulate the evolution of the Sun's properties in the daily movement of celestial objects.

MATERIALS:
• Computer or tablet with internet access.
• Application Star in a Box- Las Cumbres Observatory.

INCLUSION:
• Suitable for students with hearing impairment (captioned resources).
• Suitable for students with partial visual impairment (high-contrast interface and guided support).
