Starting in July 20th, teachers from all around Europe will have the opportunity to participate in the online astronomy course "Astronomy Education in the Canary Islands" hosted by Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) with CESAR as collaborator, along with Núcleo Interactivo de Astronomía (NUCLIO) the Faukers Telescope Project (United Kindom) and National Schools Observatory, among others.
This course is part of the PeTER initiative, an educative project from IAC togheter with Galileo Teacher Training Program , and includes conferences, astronomical software workshops and hand-on activities that will have as their central theme "Exploring stars and other worlds"
During five days, (25hrs. in total) participants will unveil the secrets of stars and their planets, obtaining an in-depth understanding of how proffesional astronomers study its composition, the techniques they use to detect an exoplanet orbiting its host star, and how to program observations with robotic telescopes, practicing with real data obtained with the Liverpool Telescope, the LCO network telescopes and ESA's space missions.
Although there is no registration fee, the number of places is limited, and allocation will be given in a first-come-first-serve philosophy.
