Night sky Constellations-I

In this activity, students will learn what a constellation is as well as the multiple sensory and cultural interpretations of it. They will understand what stars they are made of and their differences in colour, evolution, and distance from us.

 

AGE: 8-12 years.

DIDACTIC OBJECTIVES:

  • Recognize what a constellation is and its use in ancient times.
  • Identify different shapes that can arise when joining the dots (both visually and tactilely).
  • To understand different ways of perceiving the world (other sensitivities, other civilizations).
  • Stimulate spatial representation and creativity.
  • Recognize different types of stars in a constellation (colour, size, and distance from us).
  • Stimulate spatial representation and creativity.

MATERIALS:

  • Chart with celestial constellations
  • Computer or Tablet with internet access (Stellarium website, ESASky) cards.
  • 3D print of the sky (summer and winter) - the sky in your hands
  • Pencil, paper and eraser.
  • Balls of play dough in different colours and sizes
  • Chopsticks of different lengths, with support.

INCLUSION:

  • Applicable to students with cognitive and motor disabilities (use of charts for constellations and guided templates).
  • Applicable to students with visual impairment (tactile materials and audio description).
