The Secrets of the Galaxies

In this Science Case students will explore in ESAsky images from all ESA Mission's and clasify the galaxies they observe. By the end of this laboratory students will know the main concepts about galaxies structures and how to extract data out of astronomical images.

This science case takes advantage of the ESAsky tool. In this scientific case the different shapes of the galaxies are analyzed and cross-checked with the Hubble Tuning Fork classification, used by the astronomers. Also the different populations (ages) of stars within the galaxies are investigated. This science case provides you with tools to perform a meaningful and easy astrophysical analysis of galaxies. Then, the door is open for you to continue with this exploration using ESAsky.

ESASky is a science driven discovery portal providing full access to the entire sky as observed with Space astronomy missions. In this scientific case you will learn about the different types of galaxies and how their secrets have been unrevealed by the ESA Space mission.
